Die Kabelenzyklopädie wurde eigens für die Ausstellung Connecting Sound Etc. Cable Works, Cable Sounds, Cables Everywhere im freiraum quartier21 INTERNATIONAL / MuseumsQuartier Wien von Klaus Ferentschik erarbeitet. Sie definiert über 600 Begriffe der deutschen Sprache, in denen das Wort Kabel enthalten ist. Dazu gehören Kabelader und Kabelsystem ebenso wie Kabeljau und Vokabel – und es ist bemerkenswert, vor allem aber erstaunlich, in welchen Zusammenhängen bzw. Kombinationen ein Kabel manchmal auftaucht.

The cable encyclopaedia was specially compiled by Klaus Ferentschik for the exhibition Connecting Sound Etc. Cable Works, Cable Sounds, Cables Everywhere at freiraum quartier21 INTERNATIONAL / MuseumsQuartier Wien. It contains definitions for more then 600 German words containing the word Kabel. These include words ranging from Kabelsystem to Kabeljau and Vokabel (meaning respectively: wiring system, haddock and vocabulary) — and it is noteworthy, but above all astonishing, in which contexts or combinations the word Kabel sometimes appears in German.

Anlässlich des MQ Summer of Sounds 2014 widmet sich das interdisziplinär angelegte und international besetzte Ausstellungsprojekt im freiraum quartier21 INTERNATIONAL im MuseumsQuartier Wien der vermehrten Präsenz von Kabeln als gestalterisches Material in der zeitgenössischen Kunst.
Installationen, Interventionen, Objekte, Wandarbeiten und kontextuelle Werke geben Einblick in die Bandbreite künstlerischer Interpretation und demonstrieren sinnlich die faktische Funktionsweise von Kabeln als ‘verbindendes’ Element und Leiter für Licht, Klang, Bewegung, Datenstrom etc.
Entstehen wird ein synästhetischer Erfahrungsraum, der nicht zuletzt zur formalästhetischen Auseinandersetzung mit Werken aktueller Kunst anregen soll.
Performances, Lectures, Präsentationen und Workshops rahmen die Schau und ermöglichen eine vertiefende Auseinandersetzung mit dem allgegenwärtigen Massenprodukt, das nicht nur sinnbildlich ‘die ganze Welt umspannt’.

For the MQ Summer of Sounds 2014 the transdisciplinary international exhibition project at freiraum quartier21 INTERNATIONAL at Museumsquartier Wien is dedicated to increasing the presence of cables as a key components in contemporary art.
Installations, interventions, objects, works on the wall and contextual works provide an insight into the breadth of artistic interpretations, and demonstrate sensually the pragmatic function of cables as a ‘connecting’ element and as a conductor of light, sound, movement, the flow of data etc.
The result is a synaesthetic experiential space intended, not least, to inspire a formal aesthetic engagement with topical artworks.
Performances, lectures, presentations and workshops provide a framework for the show and allow a deep engagement with this ubiquitous mass product, one which does not only encompass the whole world in allegorical terms.
